Custom Marching Band Shows

YOUR piece should sound good when played by YOUR band! The goal is to tailor-make the composition to fit the instrumentation, technical skill and musical strengths of your group. By working closely with each director, the Downbeat Design Team will create a show that makes the most of your strengths and minimizes your weaknesses. For the band, we will design woodwind parts in two layers: the parts for Flute 1, Clarinet 1, and Alto 1 will be harder than those for Flute 2, Clarinet 2 and Alto 2. Brass parts will be carefully scored to fit within realistic performance ranges for your students. Potential soloists will be identified based on your specific set of performers. Likewise, percussion parts will be designed to create an effective musical presentation based on the instruments and players you have available. Thoughtful, musical, sensible percussion scoring provided by our staff will make the entire season better! In the same manner, color guard work and drill design will be written specifically to utilize the visual vocabulary of your group. You will get clarity of visual presentation, effective staging, and competitive appeal from our team of visual designers. Contact us early in the calendar year to get the process started. Come to us with ideas to develop, or we can help you start from scratch.

You can pick and choose from among the creative services we offer. Some schools have an instructional team in place to provide portions of the show, and only need the Downbeat Design Team to fill in the gaps. For instance, Lakes Community High School in Illinois hired us only to score music for the band and to write drill, while their own instructional staff created the work for the guard and the music for the drumline. Dekalb High School in Illinois just needed a drill writer, while Wheaton-Warrenville South hired us to design the entire show from top to bottom. You get the idea! Learn more about our team.
